Where the mountains meet the sea

We're now cycling along the northern coast of western Honshu, on the outer edge of the San-In Coast National park. It's not been the easiest cycling we've done over the years, at least not during this time of the year when we're getting soaked (or at least moistened) by rain on a daily basis. The hills are long and steep, and as soon as we get to the top we plunge down the hill into the next small fishing village, and then up again. But at the same time the views here are nothing short of spectacular: a clear blue ocean, dramatic rocks diving into the water, white sand beaches, lush treetops seen from above… As much as we've been complaining about the rain we wouldn't dream of exchanging this rugged coastline to the slick big cities we've seen on the way here.
