Hot spring heaven

Maki had been talking about bathing a lot and we had just thought that she wasn't used to our very low bike trip hygiene standards. But when we finally got the chance to experience a genuine Japanese hot spring bath (onsen) in Beppu we realized it wasn't just about washing ourselves. Bathing at an onsen means entering a steamy, hot room filled with completely naked Japanese men or women (separated from each other of course) lovingly scrubbing and soaking themselves in both hot and cold water, chatting and just generally enjoying life to the fullest. As we exited the onsen, relaxed and red in the face, our only question was: where's the next one and how fast can we get there?
