Our friend Maki, who Christoffer learned to know when she was studying as an exchange student at Lahden Muotoiluinstituutti, came to meet us at Rinku train station just outside the Osaka Kansai airport. She would be our guide, both geographically as well as culturally speaking, helping us understand our new reality.
Maki proved to be an asset that cannot be overestimated – she went above and beyond in trying to make everything as pleasant for us as possible. It was a new experience for her as well, as she had never gone on a bike trip this long, or slept in a tent for that matter!
